Cemu's latest version 1.7.0 has finally arrived and has made its way to Wii U 4K emulation where Mario, Xenoblade and Zelda all look great than before. It is now available to Patreon backers, which supports custom graphics with graphics packs allowing players to set the games' resolutions to 4K.
According to Grown Gaming, the Wii U has the ability to upscale games up to 1080p that has made difficulties for Team Cemu that's been struggling to re-render native higher resolutions. In the past, the resolution can only be modified by making adjustments to the game by executing hacks or playing with the game code.
Now, the graphics pack in the version 1.7.0 doesn't need you to work with the game code, allows you to tweak the anti-aliasing, shadows and resolution setting of any game that has been emulated. A YouTube user (reznoire) posted a series of videos that shows the results, which is certainly spectacular.
There have been a number of videos being shared with Wii U running in 4K resolution since the Cemu version 1.7.0 was released on Jan. 9 and some of the examples are "Bayonetta 2," "Super Mario 3D World," "Mario Kart 8" among others that have acquired vibrant colors in 4K. This results in a more comfortable level in the eyes while getting rid of the inconsistencies of its textures.
Digital Trends reports that Cemu's efforts on Wii U emulator started in 2015 and has had issues with loading menu screens but less than a year later, it was able to run "Mario Kart 8" close to perfection. Cemu is the sole working emulator that is available for current-gen consoles and while the version 1.7.0 is now available for $5-tier Patreon backers, it will be launched to public on Jan. 16, which is three days after Nintendo Switch's reveal date.
