Nintendo's home video console, Wii U has been around for almost five years since its release last November 2012. Even if you are one of those players who just received a Wii U for the Christmas season right now, it's not too late to discover update your game library.

Wii U has produced several games over the years and continues to make Wii U shine despite its tenured ship as a console. Here are the top 12 games for Wii U according to Kotaku:

"Super Mario 3D World" was one of the first games during the console's debut where you can play Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach or Toad at the same time with friends which it is a classic side-scrolling Mario game.

Another Mario game made it to the list: "Super Smash Bros." This game is where players can see their favorite characters fight with each other and even on a Wii Fit Trainer. "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Walker HD" has its graphics remastered in high-definition and added more stuff for streamlines and improving gameplay.

"Splatoon" is where players can play as a handful of squid-teen that competes with each other by shooting ink guns all over the place. Players can transform into a cephalopod form and move from one place to another. "Tokyo Mirage Session #FE" is set in modern Tokyo and is a turned based battle where "visual metaphor of transformed super-charged" pop stars fight off in a giant crowd in a concert arena.

"Bayonetta 2" features bright lights loud music and a dominatrix that beats monsters in the Wii U. The "Nintendo Land" is also a worthy game which is a dozen games in one place like bowling and tennis that either can be played one up to three players.

"Pikmin 3" allows players to control an army of up to 100 creatures that behaved like plants and ants which is played from an overhead view. Mario games like "Super Mario Maker" and "Mario Kart 8" made it to the list as well as "Wonderful 101" and "Zombie U".
