The "Heroes of the Dorm" 2017 will not be seen on TV this year as Blizzard's "Heroes of The Storm" eSports tournament will only be shown via Facebook Live. The 'Heroes of the Dorm' ESPN coverage before have seen college teams from Canada and the United States compete against each other.
The prize pool will include a $10,000 to viewers who correctly predicts the winner of the annual eSports "Heroes of the Storm" tournament. Meanwhile, the competing teams will battle it out to win free tuition fees in their university.
In the "Heroes of the Dorm" 2015 eSports event, the UC Berkeley team bagged the title and free tuition free prize becoming the first winner. Despite the fact that ESPN did not receive the viewership ratings it projected for the 2015 "Heroes of the Dorm" it still decided to pick up the eSports event in 2016.
The "Heroes of the Dorm" 2016 free tuition fee prize was picked up by the team from Arizona State University. Looks like the 2016 "Heroes of the Dorm" ESPN coverage did not also go as well as the TV network has projected since it decided to let go this year's coverage. YouTube and Twitch coverage was also seen last year.
The 2017 "Heroes of the Dorm" live stream coverage will now be seen exclusively via Facebook Live. Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard, justified the move by saying that it will bring the eSports event to more viewers worldwide.
Getting the exclusive rights for the "Heroes of the Dorm" "Heroes of the Storm" eSports tournament is said to be part of Facebook's efforts to gain grounds in the eSports scene. The 2017 "Heroes of The Dorm" Facebook Live coverage will begin on February 15 with the championship scheduled on April 8.
