Looks like fans of Blizzard's online battle arena video game, "Heroes of the Storm" are in for a treat as every character in the game will be accessible for free for a whopping 72 hours this weekend.
The studio made this exciting announcement via a blog post on the game's official website. Although a bit late, Blizzard Entertainment deems the free weekend as a New Year promotion. The said event will run from Friday, January 13, through Monday, January 16, and this will be applicable to "Heroes of the Storm" players in every region. The free weekend kicks off this Friday at 10 a.m. and will wrap up on Monday regardless of the time zone you are located in.
For those unaware, "Heroes of the Storm" features characters hailing from a slew of Blizzard's franchises such as "Overwatch," "The Lost Vikings," "StarCraft," "Diablo," and "Warcraft." The game offers both free-to-play as well as freemium models. The players can purchase heroes, mounts and visual alterations for the characters using the game's micropayments system. The game offers 10 characters for no charge in a weekly alternating rotation. Players can unlock permanent access for a specific hero by shelling out money, Polygon reported.
There are a total of 60 heroes, including the recently debuted "World of Warcraft" troll warlord Zul'jin, currently up for grabs in "Heroes of the Storm." Nearly 16 characters were introduced to the game last year and the game developer, Blizzard Entertainment rolled out a 2016-in-review video at the end of Dec. 2016 in order to recap the year in "Heroes of the Storm."
The game received a significant update in late October in the form of a new game mode dubbed, Heroes Brawl (previously known as Arena mode). Watch the video footage below to catch a brief glimpse of The Arena.
