The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Dawnguard DLC brought Vampire Lords and werewolves, but only for Xbox 360 players. Now Bethesda, the developer, has announced that DLC arrives on PC.
Seemingly available via Steam, Dawnguard is retailing for $19.99. It's available for download now.
However, the PS3 version remains unreleased. Why? Bethesda outlined the reasons in a blog post.
"We are not yet satisfied with Dawnguard's performance on PS3. We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard, but we aren't going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people's experiences in Skyrim will be worse. We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We're as disappointed as our fans when that isn't the case, but we'll continue to push for that reality," Bethesda said.
The studio didn't reveal a release date. Skyrim for PS3 received a lukewarm reception from a section of users, due to bugs ruining the game's experience. Bethesda has released patches for the version.
Despite Dawnguard releasing just last month, there's already talk of the next DLC content. The aforementioned Vampire Lord, along with ranged kill cameras, came from a "Game Jam" held inside the company.
Basically, Bethesda held a week-long session to develop anything for Skyrim. Ideas included mountable dragons, fighting a giant mudcrab, having spears as weapons, and improving water motion (to name a few). The 5-minute video, from April's DICE 2012, is below.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released to critical acclaim during Nov. 2011. Critics cited the huge world, improved graphics engine, combat, and streamlined menu as praiseworthy. It feels like Bethesda iterated on previous Elder Scrolls titles, learning lessons to implement into Skyrim, removing flaws of previous games. Unless, playing for over 100 hours is considered a flaw.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out now for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3. Dawnguard is available for Xbox 360 (1600 Microsoft Points/$15) and PC ($19.99)
