A smartphone app will launch alongside Nintendo Switch in March as a part of their online service, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime revealed. The said Nintendo Switch companion app will serve as chat, matchmaking and lobbying mechanism for players.
Fils-Aime stressed that Nintendo Switch is making a revolutionary move to incorporate true mobility in the already portable device. Nintendo Switch players can take their device on the go, look for a hotspot and still continue to connect into servers. There will be no hold-up from Nintendo Device itself on chat, matchmaking nor lobbying since smartphones will become the second handler, ThisGenGaming reported.
Meanwhile, it is unclear whether matchmaking and lobbying are exclusive to Nintendo Switch smartphone app only, IBTimes stressed. There are players who still prefer to use the built-in console feature, especially those who opt to dock Nintendo Switch most of the time. Of course, the next possible recourse is to use a bulky headset with AI capability.
Nintendo Switch has indeed traversed something new in this decision to bundle a companion smartphone app. No problem with the matchmaking and lobbying works, but there are concerns when it comes to the in-game chat. Logically, Nintendo Switch users have to temporarily leave their device to accommodate a chatroom which is on a separate smartphone.
The problem is, Fils-Aime failed to give further details about the Nintendo Switch companion app. This lack of explanation left too much room for speculations.
At any rate, there is an advantage in Nintendo Switch trying to build their infrastructure through mobile service. First is the possibility to play while simultaneously chatting online to the gaming community. Finally, it is easier to tap online games should Nintendo Switch decided to do so. After all, internet connectivity on the go with sole purpose of gaming isn't a bad idea for gamers who intend to be with their Nintendo Switch anywhere they go.
