Arc System Works has been keeping busy. The developer previously released "Guilty Gear Xrd" in arcades in Japan in 2015, and the same game was released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in 2016. Now, reports are saying that "Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2" is scheduled for a 2017 release.
According to Gematsu, Arc System works has revealed that "Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2" will be released for the PS3, PS4, PC, and arcade. The upcoming game will first launch in Japanese arcades in spring 2017. It has also been confirmed that the PS4 retail version and the PS4, PS3, and PC expansion downloadable content (DLC) are slated for a 2017 release.
Arc System Works is also planning to host a location test for "Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2" from Jan. 20 to Jan. 22 at two different locations in Japan. The location tests will take place in Tokyo at the Sega Akihabara Building No. 1 and in Osaka at the High Tech Land Sega Nishinakajima. More details about the upcoming event "will be announced later on."
At last year's Arc System Works Fighting Game Awards 2016, general director Daisuke Ishiwatari and battle planner Kazutoshi Sekine talked about the main content of the arcade version during a stage event. Both Ishiwatari and Sekine revealed that Baiken and Answer will return as playable characters.
They also talked about "balance adjustments" for the game such as new techniques for existing characters. Jam Kuradoberi, Raven, Kum Haehyun, Dizzy, Baiken, and Answer will have new episodes in the upcoming game as well.
In "Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2," players can also try a free-to-play "Tutorial." It was also revealed that the PS3, PS4, and PC versions of the title "will include the arcade content" along with a new scenario for story mode, "major improvements to the online mode," and other features that will "be announced in the future."
Siliconera has also revealed that Baiken will be voiced by Mayumi Asano and that Answer will be voiced by Tomokazu Seki. Players can also look forward to "some big changes coming to online mode."
Meanwhile, gamers who already own "Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator" for the PS4, PS3, and on Steam can update their games to "Rev 2" by purchasing DLC. Arc System Works also announced that players will soon be able to buy a retail version of the game at an "affordable" price that is perfect for those who are new to "Guilty Gear Xrd."
