Fox's new "X-Men" TV series, which tells the story of two parents on the run with their mutant children, is close to getting a pilot episode on the network. New updates about the upcoming TV series have surfaced that could be considered as great news for fans.

In an interview with IGN, producer Lauren Shuler Donner told the publication that the new "X-Men" TV series, upon getting a green light from Fox, would include Sentinels. The Sentinels are one of the X-Men's biggest enemies, and they have appeared in the previous "X-Men" movies, including "Days of Future Past." However, the Sentinels that would be featured on the TV series would not resemble anything that's been featured in Fox's film franchise.

"Matt's [project] is much more a part of just the [X-Men] world in terms of there are mutants, mutants are hated and there are Sentinels - though very different from what we've seen before," Donner said. "You feel like you're here in the X-Men world. With Legion, we're our own universe... we felt like, OK, we're going to throw it out there and hope the fans accept it."

To establish the sense of continuity in the "X-Men" universe, the producer confirmed that the Sentinels will be a mainstay on the "X-Men" TV series. The villainous Sentinels fit in perfectly with the series which, according to Polygon, will be based on an underground movement of mutants in a society of prejudice and persecution.

At Fox's session at the Television Critics Association last week, it was confirmed that initial versions of the script had been received enthusiastically at Fox. According to showrunner Matt Nix, the "X-Men" TV series will acknowledge the events of the film, although it won't fit into a specific time period.

The next "X-Men" project is FX's "Legion," which premieres February 8 at 10 p.m. ET. The final installment in the Wolverine franchise, "Logan," will be in theaters on March 3.
