Late last week, Nintendo revealed that it is working on a new "Shin Megami Tensei" title for the Switch. Fans were sent into a frenzy as the new teaser video was unveiled at the Nintendo Switch livestream presentation last Thursday, Jan. 12.

IGN has revealed that according to Atlus, the title "has just begun development." Details about the upcoming game were sparse, and even a post on Nintendo's official site says "Stay tuned for details about this game - coming soon!"

The title for the upcoming entry to the "Shin Megami Tensei" franchise was unavailable when the announcement was made, and the game was introduced as "Shin Megami Tensei Brand New Title." When asked about a "potential Western release," Atlus USA answered, "Atlus USA currently has no information about a localization for this title, but wanted to present the details from the Japanese reveal of this title to the western market. A formal announcement will be made later for this title if a localization gets confirmed."

Meanwhile, Gamespot has reported that Atlus announced the game as a "new HD title" for the Switch. Since the latest "Shin Megami Tensei" games were localized for Western markets, there is hope that the upcoming Nintendo Switch game will also be released in countries outside of Japan after some time.

Atlus' Megami Tensei franchise has been around since 1987. "Primarily developed by Atlus and currently owned by SEGA," the massive franchise even spawned movies, anime, and CD drama adaptations. The first ever game in the series, "Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei," was released on September 11, 1987 for the Famicom console.

"Persona 5," the latest title in the video game franchise, was released for the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4 in Japan on September 15, 2016. "Persona 5" is slated for a North American and European release on April 4, 2017.
