"Game of Thrones" Season 8 will be the final season of the long-running epic show that has really taken the world by storm. However, HBO has not yet officially renewed the series for its eighth and final season and it seems like here is the reason.

According to sources, the cabler's programming head Casey Bloys said showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are still unsure whether they will have six or more episodes of the finale season. The farewell season is the most awaited one but the playmakers seem undecided on how many episodes it will have. The two are still rethinking about the original plan they announced that the show will have six episodes for their farewell season.

"Game of Thrones" Finale season will definitely be emotional but there are still a lot of things to cover and a lot of reasons to look forward to. Bloys stated: "We are still working out on how many episodes they want to do, but I still hope that Benioff and Weiss will deliver more than six episodes." According to the exec: "They are still looking out if the six episodes will shape the season well. They want to have the best version of the show and how comfortable it would be especially it is the last season. But, I'll always take more, of course."

It seems like "Game of Thrones" Season 8 pick-up will follow once the exact number of episodes is available. Meanwhile, Bloys assures fans that an eighth and final season is underway, laughing off the possibility of the show ending without a new season. In their interview last year, Benioff and Weiss revealed that the seventh season will have seven episodes in total and they are most likely ending the show on its eighth season with just six episodes. Benioff said last April: "We are down to the last thirteen episodes, we are heading into the final lap."

Additionally, Benioff wanted to instill the fact that they want to have a cohesive story - a start, middle and end that all of them wants. The "Game of Thrones" Season 6 Finale showed Daenerys finally returning to Westeros and Jon Snow being the King of the North. Cersei is currently sitting on the Iron Throne with the Night King steadily waiting for all. Those are the significant pieces the writers need to have in place to end the series with a bang. Meanwhile, here are the moments from the show's sixth season finale:
