Square Enix's hit role-playing game "Final Fantasy XIV" is slated to receive a patch update titled "The Far Edge of Fate" for Q1 2017. Giving fans a peek at what the update has in store for them, the game developer has released a preview video.

The impending patch 3.5 will roll out Jan. 17, according to a press release from Square Enix. The update brings in an array of jaw-dropping content and fixes to the fourteenth entry in the main "Final Fantasy" series.

Centering on the latest chapter in the Shadows of Mhach story arc, the new additions encompass hard version of the 'Sohm Al' dungeon along with the Dun Scaith' raid dungeon and the 'Baelsar's Will' dungeon.

Aside from that, "FFXIV" players will also be able to access the 'Containment Bay Z1T9' dungeon, where they meet the final member of the Warring Triad, Zurvan. Other sidequests include the 'Saint Endalim's Scholasticade' and 'Further Hildibrand Adventure' quests.

Other than introducing new places for players to delve into, cosmetic add-ons such as emotes, new hairstyles, decorations for houses, minions and mounts will also be up for grabs. But that's not all.

There will be bevies of new gears for the players to get their hands on, including the GARO set as well as one that bears a striking resemblance to a specific gun blade-wielding "Final Fantasy" lead character.

Meanwhile, Square Enix is gearing up to open its pre-order lines for the game's second expansion set dubbed 'Stormblood' starting Jan. 24 and it will be rolled out on June 20. 'Stormblood' will revolve around the story of Ala Mhigo and its deliverance, and will also debut another "Final Fantasy" staple, the Red Mage job class, Anime News Network reported.

Add-ons likely to arrive with the expansion set include the ability to swim, expanded inventory space and a raised level cap from 60 to 70. Regrettably, the expansion also marks the end of Square Enix's support for the PS3 version of the title. Nevertheless, the studio warrants an uninterrupted transition for PS3 players.

The Collector's Edition includes various items such as a Syldra Mount, the Chicken Knife and a wind-up Bartz Minion for ''Final Fantasy V." The Chicken Knife will be exclusive to the Red Mage.

Originally released for the PC back in 2010, "Final Fantasy XIV" garnered a lot of negative feedbacks from gamers and critics alike. It was later re-released bearing a brand new moniker, "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" with its first expansion entitled 'Heavensward' releasing in June 2015.
