The latest Android 7.0 Nougat has been rolled out for Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus a few weeks ago via an on-the-air update.
The Android 7.0 Nougat update came with great features especially for mid-range phones, some of which are Data Saver, Work Mode and a much better Doze Mode. A lot of other Android users have already enjoyed the much newer update, Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS, than those Moto G4 and G4 Plus users since the company didn't manage to immediately roll out such update.
Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus don't have a specific official release date for the new Android 7.1.1 Nougat update. However, reports say that these handsets are expected to receive the new OS maybe some time this year, possibly towards the end of the first or second quarter of 2017. Motorola has reportedly started working on the currently installed software update for both Moto G4 handsets.
The new update comes in with build number NPJ25.93-11 which is compatible for both Moto G4 and G4 Plus. However, note that this update should be just installed only on supported models Moto G4 handsets with a model number of XT1624 and Moto G4 Plus handsets with a model number XT1643. This small update enables its users of restoring their devices back to stock Android Nougat firmware when needed.
Moreover, according to THE ANDROID SOUL, the firmware should be manually installed via Fastboot. In addition, several Moto G4 and G4 Plus variants already received the Nougat update while some regions are yet to receive such as Germany which might be available by the end of January.
Both of these handsets received great feedback as they were unveiled last year. These are originally running Android Marshmallow and these are among of the few mid-range phones that are already running an Android 7.0 Nougat update.
