The Wii U was a weak contender in the gaming wars, and even Nintendo itself conceded that the unit sold less than any other system the company has ever released. Now, critics and gamers alike can't wait to find out how the Nintendo Switch will fare in the market in May of this year.

CheatSheet has released a 6-point list that shows how the upcoming Nintendo Switch can succeed whereas the Wii U unfortunately failed.

Be mindful of market realities. So far, Nintendo has adapted to the rise of mobile gaming, which appeals to casual gamers - the company's target market. To deal with this, Nintendo has started releasing its own mobile games such as "Pokemon GO" and "Super Mario Run." The company also came to terms with the fact that it can't beat the power of Sony and Microsoft's consoles.

Release crowd-pleasing first-party games. The Switch must learn from Nintendo's mistake of not releasing enough games for the Wii U. While the Wii U had solid titles, there were many months in between the release of titles for the console. Nintendo has thankfully released a great list of third-party publishers who will collaborate for Switch games, and their contributions can help the console gain traction in the first few years of its release.

Focus on strong messaging. The Wii U wasn't clearly marketed, and when it was announced gamers mistakenly thought it was just an accessory for the original Wii. With the Switch, Nintendo sent a clear message. It is a hybrid console, and more details about it will be released soon enough in March.

Affordable price. The Switch must have an affordable price since it doesn't have enough power, especially compared to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. Casual gamers will be more willing to part with their cash if Nintendo offers them a cheaper gaming console option.

Online features. While the Wii U gave players a "better online experience" compared to the Wii, the Switch must do better to compete with Microsoft and Sony. The company has already announced that users can create a unified Nintendo account. The Switch will also allegedly have a reward system.

Virtual Console. Nintendo has allowed gamers old and new to have access to previously released games through the Virtual Console marketplace. Keeping this up will ensure that the Nintendo Switch succeeds.
