When the NES Classic was released, we were given 30 games that came with the unit and hackers initially had difficulty hacking the iconic game console. Now, just two months later, modders have successfully hacked the console and was able to add 30 more game titles to its library, according to a report by Digital Trends.
The NES Classic Edition was quickly sold out upon release in November 2016. Nintendo was not able to meet the demand of consumers as the console was the most sought-after gift during the holiday season. The console included 30 classic games like; "The Legend of Zelda," Kirby's Adventure," "Super Mario Bros. 3" and "Punch-Out" among others. But now, thanks to the hackers, 30 more gaming titles can be added to the game library that includes "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II - The Arcade Game" and "Batman Returns." Hackers from Russia and Japan were the first ones to successfully hack the game console. The Japanese hacker honeylabs, was able to get the console to run an SD card reader, that can be used to expand the game library even more.
Both hackers have released the tools that are used to hack the NES Classic. However, beginners should be cautious as the mod is still in its early days.
Today, the game console is still a little difficult to come by as Nintendo underestimated the demand for the system. Perhaps they did not expect such an overwhelming ordeal for the nostalgic console. Most people are forced to order their NES Classic from retailers with insanely inflated prices.
The NES Classic is still available now, if you can find one, for $60.
