The classic side-scrolling beat 'em up action game "Double Dragon IV" has been announced and will be available on Steam and PlayStation 4 in Jan. 30, 2017, according to a report by engadget. Fans of the iconic franchise will be thrilled to see the revival of "Double Dragon."
The story of "Double Dragon IV" takes place after the events of "Double Dragon II: The Revenge," which was released in 1988 for the arcade.
A separate report by ubergizmo stated that the said announcement was made by the company Arc System Works, which purchased the rights to the franchise last year. The report stated that it will maintain the 8-bit, 1980's style of visual graphics instead of trying to reintroduce the game with brand new graphics, like what Capcom has been doing to the "Street Fighter" franchise.
The new generation of gamers might have a problem with this decision, nevertheless a good one for the retro gamers that grew up with the franchise. You can watch the teaser here.
Additionally, some of the original staff members have returned to help develop the new "Double Dragon" game including Producer Takami Kaneko, Character Designer Koji Ogata, Director Yoshihisa Kishimoto, Programmer Kei Oyama and Composer Kazunaka Yamane. This certainly will be a very nostalgic game.
The first "Double Dragon" game was released in 1987 as a coin-operated game. A console version, the Nintendo Entertainment System, was released the following year. Multiple versions of the game have been released since then to different gaming consoles like Super NES, Neo Geo, Gameboy, Sega Genesis, Xbox 360 and Atari 2600, among others.
