"Game of Thrones" is currently shooting scenes for season 7. However, the upcoming season will only have seven episodes that will air in the summer. So, why is the show taking just as much time to create fewer episodes?

The HBO series apparently shoots a 10-episode season from July to December. This time, the production is running from September to February but season 7 will have fewer episodes. Iain Glen answers the question. In a recent interview with Radio Times, the actor most noted for his role as Sir Jorah Mormont explained the situation.

"I think the scale and size of the set pieces, the world that is being created it's just getting more and more extraordinary and they feel they need that time to shoot seven hours as opposed to 10," Glen said.

The actor also mentioned that there will be fewer episodes for next year's season of "Game of Thrones." Reportedly, there will be only six episodes for season 8. However, the actor did not say whether the rough estimate of 15 hours for "GoT" may still change.

According to Entertainment Weekly, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss explained why they can't go to more than 10 episodes per season. Fans are requesting more but the showrunners said that the series is labor intensive. They are required to shoot in different countries with cinematic action sequences. Apart from that, visual effects are added after the production.

As of now, HBO has not yet confirmed Glen's comment about season 8 having only six episodes. There is also no definite news about "Game of Thrones" season 8 as of this writing.
