In a move that can only be seen as done to further develop its Virtual Reality technology, Facebook has just acquired The Eye Tribe, an eye-tracking startup. The said recent acquisition has been confirmed by Facebook and was reported on Wednesday by TechCrunch.

Oculus, the Virtual Reality hand of Facebook, has been reported to have made a number of acquisitions just this year to further increase its VR brand. Oculus' purchase of the Copenhagen-based eye-tracking startup, The Eye Tribe, is said to be an important acquisition by the Social Media giant to further develop social interactions by using virtual reality technology.

Before the Facebook acquisition, The Eye Tribe has already developed and made commercially available an eye tracking device that can be used for personal computers. It was also reported that the Copenhagen-based tech startup has developed a software that can introduce gaze-based interface for smartphones.

The software developed by The Eye Tribe for smartphones can also be made available for VR headsets. Introducing gaze-based interface in VR headsets will make it easier for VR users to control their devices.

Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has been quoted to have said that he would like to develop a technology that could make friends or family members who are far apart watch basketball games together. The virtual reality technology also has a number of business applications including conducting a company board meeting in VR.

VR has been a growing industry in the tech and gadget market. The growing interest in VR technology has allowed several tech companies to develop the tech and come up with different uses for VR technology.

Social Media giant, Facebook, is not alone in the race to develop gaze-based interface for VR headgears. Alphabet Inc., parent company to Google, has been reported to have acquired Eyefluence, a startup also concerned with the development of eye-tracking technology.
