Tech giants Google, Apple and Microsoft is rumored to have partnered with the South Korea based tech giant, LG, to develop the future of smartphone displays.
The OLED technology, now considered as the benchmark for top smartphones' display, is pioneered by Samsung. However, LG, with its $803M investment, is said to have discovered a method to make foldable smartphones a reality. The tech company is also rumored to have already developed a prototype of the new technology.
The current race for the new wave of foldable smartphones, as it currently stands, is said to be a tight race as a frontrunner is yet to be determined. However, with the brewing partnership between the tech giants, the release of the first foldable smartphone may be sooner than experts predict.
The rumored release of iPhone 8 this 2017 to celebrate iPhone's 10 anniversary has also added to the speculation that Apple is closer to releasing a foldable smartphone than anybody in the smartphone field right now. Rumors have already spread that the iPhone 8 will introduce a revolutionary curved display. Apple may just up the ante and release a foldable iPhone to celebrate its 10 year with a bang.
The once industry top dog, Nokia, is also said to release a new line of smartphones to challenge the current smartphone status quo.
With Microsoft and Google also in the fold, the race to introduce the world's first foldable smartphone is a GO!
