The smartphone market has long been dominated by Apple and Samsung that having another smartphone, not under the two giant tech companies' flagship, claim the best smartphone of the year tag would be highly unthinkable. To determine the best smartphones of 2016, the competition should first be weeded out to determine the pretenders from the real contenders.

One of the legit contenders, not named Apple or Samsung, for the 2016 best smartphone tag is the LG V20. Unlike other smartphones, the LG V20 did not attempt to copy or clone the design of the other top smartphones in the market today. The Korean manufacturer succeeded in maintaining the sleek and sexy look of the V20 despite its military built.

The LG V20 is also said to be more durable than Apple's IPhone or the Google Pixel. The Gorilla Glass 4 display and the added silicone polycarbonate in the smartphone's top and bottom added to its durability. The 3.5mm headphone jack is also a pleasant site for users who are plainly irritated by IPhone's lack thereof.

A design point that sets apart the LG V20 from the rest of the smartphone field is its secondary screen. The LG V20 secondary screen is always on and is used to access shortcuts to apps and quick settings. Notifications also pops out in the secondary screen. The secondary screen found in the LG V20 is an upgrade from the previous versions found in its older models. Both the brightness and contrast in the LG V20 secondary screen were increased for improved readability. The default signature in the secondary screen may also be customized to have a more personal feel.

A disappointing feature of the LG V20 is its 3200mAh battery. However, the removable back cover of the LG V20 allows users to change the battery with a spare once it runs out.

The LG V20 release date was on September 2016.
