The Apple iPhone is without an iota of doubt one of the best smartphones up for grabs in the market today; however, the uber cool handset is not spared from flaws and has often come under fire from its huge fan base due to its battery's run-of-the-mill capacity and performance. Let's set the iPhone 6s Plus against a whale of a handset as far as battery performance is concerned, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Battery Performance
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge comes with a lithium-ion battery (non-removable) with a robust 3,600 mAh capacity that gives an impressive 27 hours of 3G phone calls and a high 74 hours of music play. Despite an entire day's worth of average to high usage, the Galaxy S7 Edge's battery life would still be around 25 percent to 35 percent. However, the S7 Edge's battery life drops drastically during tasks such as heavy gaming but it counterbalances the lapse with its superior standby time, according to TrustedReviews.
When left unplugged overnight, the Samsung flagship phone runs out of about only 2 percent of its battery thanks to its Android Marshmallow's Doze feature. The Galaxy S7 Edge requires only about 90 minutes to be fully charged with the help of the bundled power adapter, but that's not all, the handset also boasts wireless charging support. For about four hours of usage, a user needs to charge the device for just 10 minutes.
Apple iPhone 6s Plus Battery Performance
The iPhone 6s Plus also packs a non-removable lithium-ion battery but with a considerably lower capacity as compared to the Galaxy S7 Edge at 2,750 mAh. It provides about 24 hours of talk time and 80 hours of music play. The Apple iPhone 6s Plus can last for about a couple of days of average use.
The iPhone 6s Plus has a battery-saving feature that adds a few additional hours of battery usage. It can be activated by going to Settings and it also notifies the user as soon as the battery level hits 20 percent. Regrettably, the iPhone 6s Plus does not come with any sort of fast charging technology. In other words, users have no choice but to wait for a couple of hours until the battery reaches 100 percent in the event when the phone is completely drained.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge vs. Apple iPhone 6s Plus: Battery Performance Test
When put to a battery performance test by running the game "Real Racing 3," TechRadar found that the Samsung handset outperformed the Apple smartphone.
Under identical conditions, both handsets were left to drain away with no background apps running, on full brightness, same Wi-Fi connection and Bluetooth, sync and GPS enabled. While the Apple iPhone 6s Plus' battery was totally exhausted after four hours and six minutes of gameplay, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was still left with an impressive 43 percent of battery life.
