Talking about major updates of "Overwatch," director Jeff Kaplan teased on what would be introduced in the game in 2017. Developer Blizzard posted a video titled Year in Review featuring Kaplan.

PC Gamer reports that there will be custom game server browser, new maps beyond Oasis, custom communication options, spectator modes improvements, adjustments to Sombra and multiple new heroes to be added in 2017. "We want to thank you for what an awesome year 2016 has been for the "Overwatch" community, for all of us together," Kaplan said.

As for Sombra, Kaplan said that they are still cautious about making changes to the hacker hero until players will have enough time to figure her out as she is a high-skilled hero. He also added that they see a lot of ideas for her but they want to keep it slow for now as they want to prevent a situation like what happened to another DLC character, Ana.

According to GameSpot, fans will get more excited with lots of in-game events for "Overwatch" in the New Year. Holiday-themed items and more are set for the season.

Moreover, the "Overwatch" communication wheel is also being updated with more customization options letting players customize four voice lines and four emotes. Additionally, the new DLC map, Oasis is coming in early 2017 as what Blizzard revealed at BlizzCon.

Kaplan also revealed that Blizzard's focal point for "Overwatch" is the custom game server browser, which becomes available in 2017. The feature will allow players to make custom games and set them to public for anyone to join. This has been the most requested feature by fans and a basic version will be launched early next year and its expansion will be released later in 2017.

Furthermore, a viewer map will also be featured in "Overwatch" to track players' movements clearly while they fight against opponents. Kaplan also added that all requests and changes that fans have voiced out are also on Blizzard's list and some of them will be applied in 2017.
