Game developer Cloud Imperium is still quite busy in trying to complete all modules for its ambitious new space simulation video game, "Star Citizen". To showcase its progress, the studio released a brand new teaser trailer for its first-person shooter (FPS) module, entitled "Star Marine" --- showcasing different features of the new FPS module ang giving players a glimpse on what to expect when the full game finally arrives.
The upcoming game, which will be exclusive for PCs, is quite an ambitious title for the game's developer; it is meant to combine different video game genres into a single title. The game is also meant to be comprised of different components such as FPS combat, space trading, flight combat simulator, and exploration --- all incorporated into a single massively multiplayer persistent universe.
The FPS module was originally announced to have been delayed in the summer of 2015, but it seems like Cloud Imperium may have gotten the handle on things based on their newly developed module. Star Marine is expected to roll out for the game's Alpha version within the planned Star Citizen 2.6 patch. The module will also include two maps and two modes, giving testers a taste of what is yet to come
Based on the trailer, one of the most noticeable parts in space combat is the game's ability to mimic pressure loss when doors or windows are shot out. Enemies and objects are programmed to react to these changes as well, with enemies shown being sucked into space when a door is destroyed. Those who have spacesuits will survive, those who don't will die from asphyxiation.
During an interview with IGN, studio head Chris Roberts explained the difficulties in integrating the FPS' features into the entire game. He also explained that the destructive nature of a traditional FPS was a challenge to integrate as it could affect the experiences of other players as they perform other tasks such as flying ships, exploring, or interacting with people.
