Game publisher Activision has just announced that they will be launching a free play event for their newly released first-person shooter video game, "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" --- giving players who haven't picked up the game a chance to try it out without the need to fork out any cash. The free play event will be available for both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One consoles. This trial will also give players access to a significant portion of the game, including its three different game modes.
The promotion will officially kick off this week, Thursday, Dec. 15, 10 a.m. PST and will end on Dec. 20 at the same time. Interested players for the PlayStation 4 version will need to have an active PlayStation Plus account, while Xbox One players will need an active Xbox Live Gold subscription. The free event will give players access to the game's campaign mode, multiplayer mode, and Zombies in Spaceland mode.
Each of the game's modes, however, will be limited. The campaign mode will only include the first two missions and players must purchase the full game should they wish to continue. The multiplayer mode, on the other hand, will only limit players to reaching level 15, while the Zombies in Spaceland mode will have a level cap of 3. If players end up buying the full game, all progress accumulated during the free play event will be carried over to the game's full version. Players will also no longer be required to download any additional assets as the trial version will already have them download the full 60GB version.
The event itself is reportedly a way for the developers to further promote the game, which has experienced a less than spectacular sales run since its launch. According to an NPD report for November, the game failed to reach its sales expectations with physical sales observed to be 50 percent less than previous titles year-over-year.
"Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" was released last month, Nov. 4, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
