Bethesda's highly popular reboot of the "Doom" series is now set to receive its latest big free update today, Dec. 12. Bethesda announced that the brand new update to their highly popular first person shooter reboot will include some highly requested content that should keep players entertained and raring to get back into the action.
The new update, dubbed as the Free Update 5, will include a myriad of brand new content including the introduction of multiplayer bots, a new multiplayer mode and an extended level cap. The addition of bots to the game's multiplayer mode has long been requested by fans of the game, even during the game's beta.
Now, the developer has finally listened to the fan's requests and have included the bot function in both the game's Team Deathmatch and Deathmatch modes. Aside from the new multiplayer bots, gamers will also be getting a brand new competitive multiplayer mode called the "Infernal Run." The new mode will essentially be a deadly soccer game where players must fight for control over a ball which they must carry and throw into the opposing team's goal in order to score.
As for the new level cap, players will now be able to upgrade their characters to Echelon 11. Those who will be able to get their characters to the new level cap will be rewarded with a new Doom Marine Armor. The armor will also be part of other new content from the game's campaign mode that will now be available in the game's SnapMap. Players will also be able to create their own campaign-like experiences by using new Lazarus Lab-themed modules and new props.
In addition to the free update's announcement, Bethesda also revealed that they will be releasing the game's final downloadable content (DLC), titled "Bloodfall," on Dec. 15. The company revealed that the DLC will contain three new maps and that they will be revealing more details of the new content in the coming days. "Doom" was released worldwide back in May for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
