Gadget freaks have been restlessly waiting for Microsoft to shed more light on the highly anticipated Surface Pro 5's release date, specs, and other details. However, the Redmond-based tech giant seems to be in no mood to divulge what makes the purported device worth the wait.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date

While some tech pundits believed a Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date would arrive before the end of 2016, October to be exact, it hasn't been the case so far. Recently surfaced reports, on the other hand, now suggest Microsoft Surface Pro 5 could arrive early next year. As expected, this stirred conversations among Surface fans regarding the reason why Microsoft Surface Pro 5 has failed to make an appearance this year.

The postponed Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date could be attributed to the fact that several important components of the upcoming laptop are slated to be released on Dec. 2016 and Q1 2017, PC Advisor reported. Aside from that, the next Windows 10 update is also scheduled to roll out in spring of next year and Intel's much lauded Kaby Lake chips are made available only recently. Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date rumors stemmed from an image leak, showing the Windows Surface display in a store window with 2016 and 2017. Microsoft is said to be gearing up on launching three new devices in 2017, with optimistic tech buffs hazarding a guess that one of them would be the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

Furthermore, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is said to come with a 512GB storage space and run Windows 10 Redstone 3. The device will also boast a USB Type-C, Thunderbolt 3 Support, and come with a robust battery, The Bitbag reported. It's worth noting that the current Surface Pro 4 already ships with a mammoth 1TB of storage, coupled with 16GB of RAM. Meaning, the minimum expectations from Microsoft Surface Pro 5 would be to match the aforesaid specs of the Pro 4.

In other news, Microsoft recently announced its plans that center on smartphone architecture innovations; in other words, turning users' phones into real PCs. Microsoft gave the public a sneak peek of upcoming innovations in the cellular arena during the WinHEC (Windows Hardware Engineering Community) event in China.
