Rumors about Lenovo getting rid of its Moto X series and replacing it with the Moto Z series have been running rampant for a long time now. The Chinese technology firm debunked these speculations back in June, claiming that the Moto X series is indeed "alive and well". Now, an array of leaked images of what many claim to be of the Moto X 2017 has surfaced online; however, some reports suggest it may be a Moto Z series device.

If the leaked Moto X 2017 images are anything to go by, the purported smartphone will be housed in a metal body and will sport a round camera panel identical to that on the Moto Z. Interestingly, the Moto X 2017 in the leaked images posted by Slashleaks do not show any pins at the bottom-back, which can facilitate support for Moto Mods. Moreover, the Moto X 2017 is expected to come with a home button, which is likely to include a fingerprint sensor.

Recently, Lenovo's Moto brand unveiled two brand new mods that includes a robust 3000mAh Mophie Battery Pack and an Incipio Car Dock, which enables charging and sports a 3.5mm audio output. It can be recalled that earlier this year, Lenovo made it perfectly clear that the next Moto Z flagship devices will come with support for attachable mods.

Bearing that in mind, it seems highly unlikely that the recently surfaced leaked images are from the Moto Z series. The rumored Moto X 2017 smartphone has been subjected to leaks for a long time now. But not too long ago, Techdroider leaked images of the alleged handset showing off an identical round camera panel at the back.

The Moto X 2017 smartphone will be up for grabs in color variants such as Gold and Silver, just like what the leaked images show.

There's no word yet on other details about the Motorola Moto X 2017 device, but optimistic tech buffs believe that the smartphone will hit the store shelves on or during the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017.
