Team ICO's adventure game "The Last Guardian" has been highly anticipated for years, but it looks like its troubled development time may have ultimately killed the hype for some.

"The Last Guardian" Revealed

"The Last Guardian" has started its development around 2007, hot off the heels of Team Ico's critically acclaimed game "Shadow of the Colossus." Fans are expecting Team Ico to deliver yet another great title, as the bar was already set by its first two titles, "Shadow of the Colossus" and "Ico."

Referred to as "Project Trico" during its early stages of development, Team Ico's Fumito Ueda finally reveals its gem at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2009.

Development Hell

"The Last Guardian" was hampered by numerous issues and delays throughout its development.

The game was originally slated for a Holiday 2011 release on the Playstation 3, and a demo was supposed to be included in the "Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection." This has not pushed through.

On the year of its supposed release, Fumito Ueda has reportedly left Sony, according to Gamasutra, but the company confirmed that the "Ico" creator is still working on "The Last Guardian" as a freelancer.

The project was moved to the PlayStation 4, despite Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida insisting that the game will stay as a PlayStation 3 game, as per Eurogamer.

The Final Delay?

Fast forward to E3 2016, "The Last Guardian" finally gets an Oct. 25 release date. Yoshida said at the time that the team is confident that fans will enjoy the game despite its long development period. Ueda, on the other hand, said that he is nervous about his own game.

Unfortunately, Sony has announced yet another delay for the title, which is now slated for a December release. This may spell bad news for the once anticipated game, as more and more people are becoming concerned about whether or not "The Last Guardian" will deliver.

Still, fans of both "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colosssus" still have faith in "The Last Guardian," with everyone hoping that this will be its final delay.
