In previous rumors, Apple was purportedly gearing up to introduce the iPhone Air or iPhone 17 Slim model by 2025. Now, it appears that the Cupertino giant will not be the lone maker to bring this to market soon—Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim might be on the way now.
Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim
Sources indicate that Apple will release a skinny version of the iPhone 17 next year. This thin version of the iPhone 17 is coming following continuous efforts that the technology firm is trying to implement towards the realization of making the experience and innovation further in pursuit of its aim for users.
For instance, the iPhone 17 Slim will feature a 6.56-inch screen and take the middle place between the standard version of the iPhone 17 and the more massive version dubbed the iPhone 17 Plus. It is hoped that in making this skinny iPhone, the consumer will look forward to getting this very light and portable experience of a smartphone.
Meanwhile, Samsung is said to be planning to release a slimmer version of Galaxy S25, which will be in the market in 2025, just like what is planned by Apple for the following year, Korean outlet ET News reports.
The Galaxy S25 Slim will be much slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Thus, Samsung will experiment with the market's response to an expensive slim smartphone. In case of a good market response, Samsung can include a slim version in the Galaxy S26 series.
Development of Samsung's Galaxy Line
Since the Samsung Galaxy S20 was announced, the firm released three models each year: a standard model, a Plus model, and an Ultra model. For the Galaxy S25 series, there will be three models: Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra; and possibly S25 Slim in the latter half of the year.
The former model will attract buyers who want something exclusive in design and lighter. This is because till now, not much development has been done in foldable phones.
Design and Features of the Slim Models
Balancing slimness with performance is a challenge for both Apple and Samsung. In the case of the Galaxy S25 Slim, it will probably use a thinner OLED panel and a lighter battery to achieve the look of slimness.
In the case of the iPhone 17 Slim, there's no word on the exact dimensions from Apple, but at 6.56 inches, this screen size may give a middle ground on a device that users might be interested in as an attractive compact device without having to compromise on display quality.
Market Impact and Consumer Taste
A slimmer smartphone could affect consumer taste in the competitive market of smartphones. Consumers are looking for portability and performance above all.
With Apple and Samsung rolling out new designs, tech enthusiasts may appreciate them as state-of-the-art designs.
Put differently, the year 2025 seems to be promising because Apple and Samsung will hopefully announce new slimmer versions of smartphones. The question that is most sought by observers in the industry would be how these models are likely to attract the very dynamic market that will unfold during that time.
