After a long nine-year wait, 'The Last Guardian' is finally confirmed to come out this year.
Video game publication Edge Magazine, which features 'The Last Guardian' on its 294th issue, has spoken to director Fumito Ueda. Ueda, who was also responsible for Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, confirmed during the interview that the game is definitely coming out this year.
"Since this is the year we will see the game's release," Ueda said, "I do have some worries, but I'm also very excited."
Sony Australia has also confirmed this information, according to Kotaku.
Edge magazine also had the opportunity to test play the game itself. Edge describes Trico as "a free-spirited creature that flagrantly disregards your attempts to tame it.", which means that the creature cannot be controlled directly. The beast has a mind of its own, and doesn't always follow the player's instructions. As the player's bonds with Trico strengthens, the beast will be more responsive to requests.
Ueda said that he particularly wanted Trico to be this way, instead of some other creature who just does what is asked. "There are a lot [of games] out there where you can do that," he said. "I think I've had enough of them."
Trico also has the ability to shoot a red beam of lightning from its tail, at a point illuminated by the player.
IGN also had a first-hand experience with the game, describing Trico as a "towering chimera: part bird, part dog, part who knows what". IGN's Cam Shea pointed out that trust is one of the key themes in The Last Guardian, and the story, which is being narrated by the main character's future self, truly revolves around the bond between the character and Trico.
'The Last Guardian' is one of the most highly anticipated games, and fans are glad to know that the game will finally be playable this year.
