It looks like it will be possible for Halo to be released on both the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC's.

There has been speculations on whether Microsoft can make future Halo games compatible for both platforms. Kotaku recently claimed that this possibility is not a pipe dream, as sources say that the company is aiming to do just that, with the help of the so-called "Project Helix".

Kotaku's source, which claims to be familiar with Microsoft's plans, said that the tech giant wanted both the Xbox and the PC to work together. Microsoft's aim is to release all its biggest games, including its major Halo franchise, on both platforms, something that the company has tried to achieve with titles such as Sea of Thieves and the recently-cancelled Fable Legends.

Microsoft has recently announced that Halo 5's Forge program will be coming to the PC for free. The forge program for Halo 5:Guardians Edition will be launched on Windows 10, making it easier for players to design and create custom Halo levels, among others. Fans have taken this as a sign for future Halo games to be available on the PC soon, with Halo 5's studio head Josh Holmes saying that this is "just the beginning".

Fans have been expecting Microsoft to launch a main Halo game at this year's E3, and so far, the company has not confirmed anything about this. Microsoft's E3 lineup so far includes Forza, Halo Wars 2, and Gears of War 4.

In other news, Microsoft is also rumored to release a slimmer version of the Xbox One this year. The console, which sources say is part of "Project Helix", will be sporting a new redesigned controller and 4K support, and will be "40% smaller than the current model," Polygon's sources confirmed.

Microsoft is also reported to be developing a new Xbox console codenamed 'Scorpio', and is rumored to be out by next year.
