The factory image for the Android 5.1.1 software update for the HTC-made Google Nexus 9 is now officially available for the LTE model of the slate.
The Nexus 9 was a bit late to the Android 5.1 party, which caused some uproar among owners of the slate. Although the older Nexus 10, as well as both generations of the Nexus 7 were already enjoying Android 5.1.1, The HTC Nexus 9 initially received an update only to Android 5.0.2. Owners of the tablet started expressing their disappointment and frustration with that update, as it was no longer the latest version.
Nexus devices are so popular not only due to their good specs and features and generally affordable price tag, but also because they're part of the Nexus experience that guarantees timely updates whenever a new version rolls out. The Nexus 9 seemed to be left behind when it received Android 5.0.2 instead of 5.1.1, but Google didn't take too long to remedy the situation.
Android 5.1 officially started rolling out to the Nexus 9 earlier this month, suggesting that the previous Android 5.0.2 version was just the stepping stone. Google posted the Android 5.1.1 factory image for the Nexus 9 just over a week ago, but only for the Wi-Fi model of the tablet.
It is now the turn of the LTE-enabled Nexus 9 versions to get the same treat as well, and the factory image is now officially up for grabs, bumping up the tablet to version LMY47X.
It's quite common for LTE versions of devices to receive updates a while after their Wi-Fi only counterparts, and it's good to know that the Nexus 9 LTE didn't take too long. In other cases, LTE versions of devices get updates a good while after the Wi-Fi models.
In addition to the factory image for the LTE-enabled Nexus 9, Google has also started rolling out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop as an over-the-air update.
As a reminder, factory images are designed for people who have rooted or modified their devices in some other way, giving them a chance to get the latest version of Android. At the same time, some users prefer to grab factory images rather than waiting for the OTA even if they didn't root or modify their device. Installing the update through factory images, however, is advisable only for those who know what they're doing. Otherwise, waiting for the OTA to arrive may be safer.
That said, you can find the Nexus 9 LTE Android 5.1.1 Lollipop factory image at this link.
