The HTC One M7 on AT&T is now getting an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop, while the One M8 will get the same treatment next week.

When Android 5.0 Lollipop became official, HTC promised to update its devices within 90 days of the source code release. The company made notable efforts to keep its word, but ultimately acknowledged that not all One M7 and One M8 versions worldwide will get the update in due time.

After some delays, carrier versions of the two smartphones in the U.S. finally started receiving the long-awaited update to Android Lollipop, but the process is still not complete. Not all U.S. carriers are done updating their versions of the smartphones, but we now have some good news.

After HTC's Mo Versi confirmed that the AT&T HTC One M7 received technical approval to get Android 5.0 Lollipop, AT&T has officially started rolling out the update on Wednesday, April 1.

Moreover, AT&T HTC One M8 owners will also get the update soon. In response to a question from a user on Twitter, Mo Versi said that the AT&T HTC One M8 will start receiving the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop next Monday, April 6.

Considering that both the HTC One M7 and One M8 in Europe and other parts of the world already received the update for a good while now, and other U.S. carriers already rolled out the update as well, it was about time for AT&T to follow suit.

Both the HTC One M7 and the One M8 on AT&T will receive the update over the air (OTA), which means that it may take some time to reach all devices. OTA updates are always gradual, rolling out in phases, and not all devices get them at the same time.

Both updates will come packed with neat features and improvements, including the much-touted Material Design elements, security enhancements, battery life optimizations, a revamped recent apps panel, various notifications improvements, and more.

The update was long overdue, but it's better late than never. HTC One M7 owners on AT&T should receive Lollipop momentarily if they haven't already, while One M8 owners should receive the update notification next week.
