The 32GB version of the Google Nexus 10 has now gone out of stock as well on Google Play, suggesting that a successor may be en route.

Just a few months back, the 16GB Google Nexus 10 went out of stock on the Play store, fueling rumors that a new Nexus 10 was on its way. At the time, however, the 32GB model was still in stock, but that is no longer the case. With both versions of the Nexus 10 now out of stock on Google Play, it seems increasingly likely that Google may announce a successor to its 10-inch flagship Android tablet.

When the 16GB Nexus 10 went out of stock, Google did not replenish supplies for the tablet. While this is hardly confirmation that a new iteration is on its way, it does seem unlikely that Google will replenish stock of either the 16GB or the 32GB Nexus 10.

Google launched its Nexus 10 tablet back in 2012, and a refresh has been expected for quite some time now. The company launched a new-generation Nexus 7 tablet, as well as a new Nexus 5 smartphone in 2013, but no sign of a new Nexus 10 so far.

In fact, the next-generation Nexus 10 has been so elusive that reports couldn't even reach a consensus regarding the purported manufacturer. Various reports suggested at first that the next Nexus 10 will come from Samsung, but subsequent leaks pointed to ASUS as the manufacturer. There have been several rumors and reports, but no concrete information has surfaced yet. Google has not confirmed anything and nothing is for certain so far.

The new iteration should, however, sport some notable improvements over the existing Nexus 10. The current 10-inch Nexus tablet, for instance, sports a 2560 x 1600 resolution. If the new generation would improve on the display, it could boast a high-resolution 2K screen. The very latest version of Android should also be on board, as expected with a new Nexus device.

Some previous reports have suggested that Google might pack a powerful 64-bit processor into its next-generation Nexus 10, and that possibility definitely sounds plausible. On the other hand, a 64-bit optimized version of Android is not expected to roll out until the latter half of 2014, which would indicate that the tablet may not arrive anytime soon.

If one thing's for sure, it is that the current Google Nexus 10 is no longer in stock on Google Play. The 32GB Nexus 10 stock has been depleted as well, and there's a strong chance that a refreshed model is in the cards.
