Motorola seems to be offering $150 discounts on its Moto X once again, this time through coupon codes sent by email to its "favorite customers."
The Moto X didn't exactly fly off the shelves at launch because it sported quite a steep price tag for what it has to offer. The smartphone brings unprecedented customization options and some neat functionality, but the specs department is not top-notch. Nonetheless, the mid-range Moto X launched with a price tag similar to high-end flagships.
Motorola realized that it needed a hefty discount to make its flagship Moto X more attractive, and it slashed $150 off the smartphone's off-contract pricing on Cyber Monday. The deal saw such great demand that it crashed the company's website altogether, so Motorola decided to appease disgruntled customers by offering the same deal again. The company repeated the promotion on two separate occasions, and both times the Moto X sold out in less than 10 minutes. Motorola also ran a similar promotion for Today Show viewers, offering the off-contract Moto X for $150 less, or the on-contract smartphone for 50 percent off. That promotion sold out of the smartphone in no time as well.
Seeing such success with the promotional Moto X pricing, the Google-owned company is again offering a similar deal. This time, however, Motorola is sending out $150 coupon codes to its "favorite customers" via email.
According to a new report from Droid-Life, some users have received an email from Motorola that "features a snowflake GIF made of Moto X phones in a variety of colors, including Bamboo."
The coupon code gets users $150 off the Moto X, and the presence of the Bamboo option in the GIF suggests that this offer applies to the wood back Moto X as well. Some of these offers have already expired, but the codes that were just sent out are valid until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 26.
As Droid Life points out, it remains unclear how Motorola chooses its "favorite customers." If you are among the lucky users to get the promotional email from Motorola, you now have a chance to get the Moto X for $150 off.
On the other hand, as great as this deal sounds, all of these promotions Motorola ran for the Moto X may be a sign that the smartphone isn't doing so well. Either way, these heavy discounts definitely boosted sales of the Moto X.
