Samsung has officially unveiled its Galaxy Grand successor, the Galaxy Grand 2, which sports a larger screen and Android 4.3 out of the box.

The entire phablet category emerged due to Samsung and its original Galaxy Note, which pushed the limit on how big a smartphone could be. The term itself is a combination of "phone" and "tablet," because that's what such devices do: blur the line between smartphones and tablets, aiming to offer the best of both worlds.

The Galaxy Grand 2 is yet another phablet Samsung, sporting an even larger screen compared to its predecessor, as well as more powerful internals. The device comes with a 5.25-inch HD display and packs a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, paired with 1.5GB of RAM. The new-generation Galaxy Grand also boasts a larger 2,600 mAh battery.

"This evolution of the Galaxy Grand series brings meaningful upgrades to its predecessor including an improved HD viewing experience, enhanced performance, and many other intuitive features," Samsung touts in the press release on Monday, Nov. 25.

The super-sized smartphone retains the same 8-megapixel camera as the original Galaxy Grand, but comes with Android 4.3, the latest Jelly Bean version, out of the box.

Samsung has also equipped the Galaxy Grand 2 with several smart features that aim to set it apart from the crowd. The smartphone will boast enhanced camera features such as Best Face, Best Photo and Continuous Shot, as well as the popular Story Album, S Translator, S Travel, Sound & Shot, Samsung Hub, Group Play, and Samsung Link.

Samsung's phablets have proved to be very popular and have started an entire trend of large-screen smartphones, with various phone makers now offering their own phablets. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 aims to serve as an alternative for customers who want a big-screen smartphone from Samsung, but can't afford to purchase the high-end Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3 flagships.

The company further mentioned that the Galaxy Grand 2 will come with dual-SIM capabilities, but it has yet to offer pricing and availability details for the handset. Samsung does note, however, that the new phablet will be available in white, with black and pink models launching in "selective regions."
