The HTC Desire 200 has just leaked before launch, as a prototype of the smartphone stars in a new video, apparently shot in Vietnam.

The upcoming HTC Desire 200 is a yet-unannounced entry-level Android smartphone targeting the low-end of the market.

Vietnamese website Thegioididong was the first to spot the HTC Desire 200 prototype video and it seems the handset borrows some design elements from the high-end HTC One, the company's current flagship smartphone. The HTC Desire 200, however, sports a compact form factor as opposed to the HTC One's generous screen size.

The entry-level smartphone apparently sports a 3.5-inch LCD screen with a modest resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. Under the hood, the handset packs a 1GHz single-core processor and 512MB of RAM, as well as a 1,400 mAh battery. The HTC Desire 200 will reportedly come with 4GB of internal storage capacity and a micro SD card for additional memory.

Other specs of the purported smartphone include a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera that doesn't seem to have any flash. The video shows the phone running on the older Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) mobile operating system, but HTC may boost it to Jelly Bean (4.1 or later) when it actually launches the handset. The phone will also have HTC's Sense user interface (UI) on top of Android.

Based on the video, the HTC Desire 200 seems to sport an earpiece similar to the HTC One's front speaker grills. Just like most HTC handsets, this entry-level smartphone has three capacitive touch buttons below the screen. From the back, meanwhile, the phone resembles the HTC Desire C. The back of the purported phone also sports Beats Audio branding.

One look at the phone's specs clearly indicates the HTC Desire 200 is an entry-level Android smartphone, which means it should sport a low price tag to enter the budget segment. In today's market with increasingly bigger display sizes, whopping resolutions and crazy horsepower, the HTC Desire 200 would not have much of an appeal with its small, low-resolution screen and its meager 512MB of RAM. If the price is right, however, HTC may see plenty of takers.

HTC launched its Desire 600 recently as a dual-SIM smartphone with the latest HTC Sense 5 UI experience. The HTC Desire 600 sports a 4.5-inch Super LCD2 display with a resolution of 520 x 960 pixels, a Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM. Other specs include 8GB of storage expandable via micro SD, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.6-megapixel front shooter.

The company did not disclose any pricing details for the HTC Desire 600 smartphone yet, but the handset's specs point to an affordable price tag. Considering that the HTC Desire 200 has even lower-end specs, the price should be considerably lower as well.
