The much-rumored Motorola X Phone is purportedly the first device born from Motorola's marriage with Google, and Motorola's upcoming products are "phenomenal," says Eric Schmidt, Google's executive chairman.
Aside from massive amounts of rumors, one more different than the other, very little is actually known about the purported Motorola/ Google X Phone. Is it just the first device in a "phenomenal" line of X products? Do Google and Motorola have an X Tablet in the pipeline?
Speaking at the D: Dive Into Mobile conference in New York City, Schmidt answered questions about Motorola's upcoming devices and his comments hint toward big things to come.
"They have a new set of products, which are phenomenal," Schmidt told All Things D's Ina Fried and Liz Gannes. "Very, very impressive."
Going past the evasive, yet promising comments, Fried and Gannes pushed further and asked Schmidt whether the Motorola X lineup entails phones, tablets or both. Schmidt's answer, however, was again very elusive.
"Think of it as phones-plus," said the exec.
That's not much to go on, but Schmidt is basically saying that Motorola is preparing to unleash an awesome smartphone. On the other hand, what is "phones-plus" supposed to mean? Is it a "phablet" or the rumored highly-customizable Motorola X Phone?
Motorola X Phone rumors swirled all over the place, hinting all sorts of things, which makes it all the more difficult to separate fantasy from reality. Some rumblings even suggested that the Motorola X unveiling was facing delays. Truth is, nobody uttered any official word about a Motorola X Phone or a Google X Phone, so take everything with a massive grain of salt.
Some expected Google to unveil the X Phone at this year's Google I/O conference in May, but Phone Arena now cites anonymous sources saying that the device will not make its debut until August. The Motorola X Phone will allegedly sport a 4.7-inch display with 1080p resolution and a very thin bezel, packed with all sorts of exciting specs. Other reports, meanwhile, claim the 4.7-inch size of the display is real, but the resolution sits at 1280 x 768. Gorilla Glass 3 reportedly protects the screen.
The handset also allegedly packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.3GHz, and is waterproof for up to 30 minutes. Again, none of these rumored specs and features is confirmed. Aside from the fact that it will be "phenomenal," it's all shrouded in mystery for now.
