Apple's Retina iPad mini and Google Nexus 7 are definitely two tablets the tech world is looking forward to as many feel these devices will redefine the concept of tablet computer with their amazing specs and features.
According to fresh reports, Google may outdo Apple to the high-resolution 7-inch form factor tablet market with a revamped Nexus 7. Apple is expected to release its next-generation iPad mini with its proprietary Retina Display later in the third quarter or fourth quarter.
Google will unveil its revamped Nexus 7 tablet with a very high-resolution display much before Apple's iPad mini 2, CNET reports. "We're seeing potential in the third quarter of panel production for a higher-resolution iPad Mini," DisplaySearch analyst Paul Semenza was quoted as saying to the tech website. Based on the data the company receives from its supply chain, the research firm speculated the iPad mini arrival to be in the third or fourth quarter 2013.
According to Semenza, the next-generation iPad mini will boast a resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, which he thinks is the typical step-up as you take the device to Retina. The current iPad mini has a relatively gritty 1,024 x 768 display. The next mini display would feature a pixel density of 324 pixels per inch compared with the original iPad mini's underwhelming 163 ppi.
Semenza said LG Display is the favorite choice to make the display, although AUO, Japan Display, and Sharp are all in the race.
Based on his checks with the Asian component suppliers, the analyst believes that Google is readying a follow up device for the Nexus 7. "For the Google Nexus 7, we're seeing the potential for stepping up to a 1,920 x1,200 'HD+' kind of format. We're seeing panel production possibly in the second quarter," he said. The 7-inch Google Nexus currently features a 1,280x800 screen, with a pixel density of 216 pixels per inch. According to his speculation, the new display would increase this up to 323 pixels per inch.
DisplaySearch analyst's predictions about the next Apple tablet mirror a previous report from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who said the iPad mini 2 will land in the third quarter.
