HTC One, as of now, is one of the heavily speculated and highly rumored smartphones of the current year, and now the company is offering more for the HTC fans in the U.S.

HTC has just revealed the Developer Edition of the newly revealed HTC One, and the new device is to ship with an unlocked bootloader, according to reports.

The Taiwan-based company is now offering Developer Editions of its flagship devices in order to reach a compromise between the demands of carriers and those of the developer community, and the HTC One is the latest smartphone to join that list. The unlocked device will soon be made available to the U.S. residents for $649.

As far as the device specifications are concerned, the HTC One Developer Edition is similar to its regular One counterpart. However, T-Mobile users will be disappointed to know that the device doesn't support T-Mobile's AWS HSPA spectrum.

Nonetheless, to be more optimistic, T-Mobile has already started its LTE network deployment, and users might still get to experience 4G on the One Developer Edition.

"The HTC One Developer Edition will be available in limited quantities to customers with a US Zip Code for $649 when the HTC One is released in the United States, the official page states. "In the meantime, what are you most looking forward to doing with your HTC One Developer Edition smartphone?"

The specifications of the HTC One include:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 64 GB of storage
  • HTC UltraPixel Camera
  • SIM and bootloader unlocked
  • Open APIs for Bluetooth Low Energy, Infrared, and more
  • Front-facing stereo speakers
  • Two dual-membrane microphones for recording
  • Multiple frequency compatibility: HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz, GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US)

"Of course, the Developer Edition comes with an unlocked bootloader, which should simplify the access to its core functionality. HTC also makes a point of specifying that the device is SIM unlocked, but that's obvious given that the device will sell without a contract," Android Authority writes.

Additionally, it has also been reported that HTC has delayed the rollout of the HTC One till April, while the company plans to ship preorders in "certain" markets by the end of March. Some reports also indicate that the latest delay could be due to issues with getting the UltraPixel camera sensors manufactured.
