Samsung launched its mid-range smartphone Stratosphere last year in October. Now leaked images and rumors are surfacing that the successor to the handset - Stratosphere 2 - will be revealed soon.

Samsung has an array of smartphones in all segments. A Twitter use who goes by the handle @evleaks revealed that a new handset called Stratosphere 2 is heading to Verizon.

The leaked image on Twitter shows the front and back of the Stratosphere 2 or SCH-I415 with a Verizon brand logo on the top front and middle back of the device. Features and specification are not available on the Twitter post, but the image indicates that just like the previous iteration the Stratosphere 2 will be equipped with a slide QWERTY keyboard.

Previous rumors suggest that the Samsung Stratosphere 2 will sport a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display. A 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor is expected to power the smartphone. The phone is speculated to have an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Stratosphere 2 is expected to have 8GB of on-board storage with the option to expand to a further 32GB using a microSD card. The smartphone will likely have 1GB of RAM and run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) with an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean soon.

The leaked image indicates that the Stratosphere 2 has four onscreen buttons for user friendly navigation, but they are placed differently compared to those in the older iteration. Users will hope for the phone to have 4G LTE, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi capabilities.

"Early indications are that the phone will be launched or made available on Verizon starting November 21st this month - that is just three weeks away. The pricing is still unknown but it should cost between $99 and $149 with a 2 year contract," reported The Droid Guy.

Price conscious smartphone buyers looking for a smartphone with a full sized QWERTY keyboard may find the device appealing. The smartphone market is flooded with a vast variety of handsets. It will be a wait and watch game for Samsung to see how the Stratosphere performs in the market.
