Samsung recently launched its Galaxy Note 2 phablet in Canada and now, the Korean company is on song to add to its handset offerings and has rolled out the Galaxy Rugby LTE smartphone. Canadian carrier Bell will be offering the Galaxy Rugby LTE for $79.95 on a three-year contract.
"The Galaxy RugbyTM LTE is a rugged smartphone that runs on Canada's largest LTE network. So you have access to all the benefits of an LTE smartphone plus the peace of mind that it will withstand extreme working conditions," states Bell's Web site.
Earlier in October, Canadian carrier TELUS was the first to launch the handset in the country. However, TELUS is offering the Galaxy Rugby LTE for just $49 on a three-year contract, which is $30 cheaper than Bell's pricing. However, the no-term version is slightly more expensive on TELUS and is available for $460 vis-à-vis Bell's $449.95.
One of the reasons why the Galaxy Rugby LTE is priced steeply on Bell, when compared to TELUS, could be because it's Canada's first push-to-talk (PTT) dedicated LTE smartphone.
"The Samsung Rugby LTE is a rugged next generation PTT capable device from Bell. You can communicate one-to-one or one-to-many instantly with just the push of a button, and immediately see whether contacts are available. Plus, enjoy instant connections, simultaneous voice and data and Cloud- based contact management," noted Bell's Web site
Weighing 5.64oz, the Galaxy Rugby LTE sports a 3.97-inch Super AMOLED display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution. The rugged smartphone packs in a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. The option to expand memory up to an additional 32GB is available courtesy the microSD card slot.
The Galaxy Rugby has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a1.3 megapixel front-facing snapper, and will come pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. An 1850mAh powers the NFC-enabled device, which has passed "stringent military specification tests and is certified with an IP67 rating to be both water and dust proof."
The Galaxy Rugby LTE is also available in the U.S. on AT&T as Galaxy Rugby Pro.
