On Oct. 29, Pandora, the Internet radio service, announced the updated version 4.0 for its iOS and Android mobile customers. The company regards the latest version of the Pandora mobile app as a significant update since the service was introduced on smartphones.

The update to both iOS and Android platforms brings new features to listeners for a better music experience and with expanded listening functionality. Pandora claims that for the first time mobile phone users will get a detailed personal music profile along with diverse social sharing capabilities.

"Pandora 4.0, which marks the first time a uniform interface exists across both iOS and Android smartphone platforms, provides listeners an ideal environment for music discovery, exploration and sharing," indicated Pandora's press release.

Pandora has a vast user base which the company wants to expand further with the new update.

"Pandora has now surpassed 175 million registered users and more than 115 million have accessed Pandora on a smartphone. Our listeners' extraordinary embrace of personalized radio on their smartphones has enabled Pandora to reach massive scale in mobile and over 1 in 3 smartphone users in the US have listened to Pandora in the past month. With Pandora 4.0 we have combined years of innovation and learning into one cross-platform app that sets a new standard for mobile personalized radio," said Joe Kennedy, Pandora Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

The older version of the Pandora mobile app allowed users to listen to smart stations, but offered limited customizing of the stations. The update brings changes that will enable users to add variety to a smart station, change the name of that station, or share it with friends.

The version 4.0 will also allow users to edit their profile, view bookmarked songs, and keep track of followers.

Along with tweaks made to the user interface, Pandora version 4.0 also includes the new music feed tab. Users will have to connect to Facebook to access this functionality, which will enable them to see a friend's activity and the popular feeds.

Pandora for iOS is free to download from iTunes and the android version is expected to arrive on Google Play Store in the coming weeks.
