Earlier in September, Samsung had begun rolling out the much-awaited Android Jelly Bean 4.1 update for its Galaxy S3 in Europe, with Poland being the first country to get the update. Now, per reports, Samsung has confirmed that the update is rolling out in the UK as well.

The Jelly Bean upgrade for the Galaxy S3 makes it the first non-Nexus Android handset to get the update. Samsung UK, in a statement, confirmed to that that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean would be rolled out on all networks "over the coming weeks".

"Samsung UK can confirm that the roll out of Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) has begun for our Galaxy S III customers and will be available across all networks over the coming weeks, pending software testing and approvals," said the company.

Network operator Three began rolling out the over-the-air (OTA) update on Thursday, Oct. 18, to S3 owners. The carrier took to its Twitter account to announce the same. Following, Three's announcement, carrier O2 revealed on its community forum that "from tomorrow, 19th October '12, you'll be able to upgrade to the much awaited 4.1 Jelly Bean update over Wi-Fi or via Kies."

Vodafone too has confirmed that it will push out the Jelly Bean update on Monday, Oct. 22.

"Great news, the Android 4.1 JellyBean update will be made available for Samsung Galaxy S3 handsets purchased from Vodafone on Monday," stated Vodafone.

Other UK carriers like Orange, and T-Mobile too are expected to begin pushing out the Jelly Bean update to Galaxy S3 users soon, though no details are yet known.

A T-Mobile spokesperson told TechRadar that "T-Mobile is working closely with its device manufacturing partner Samsung to roll-out a Jelly Bean update for as soon as possible. As soon as we have an exact timeline in place we will confirm."

The Jelly Bean update is an improvement over the previous Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Even though the upgrade is not a radical improvement on its predecessor, it introduces new features like Google Now (Google's version of the voice assistant Siri), which is better than Samsung's S Voice.

Galaxy S3 users who would like to check whether the update is available for their device need to connect to Wi-Fi, go to Settings and select the About Device option and then choose Software Update. However, it is not necessary that users will receive the notification today itself as sometimes the updates can take some time to reach all handsets.
