NetEase and WB Games have delivered shocking news to fans of the popular mobile MMO, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened. The game, which captured the hearts of many players, will be shutting down its servers in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania on Oct. 29. However, for those playing in Asia servers, this is not the time to stop you from collecting cards.
As of Oct. 29, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened will no longer be available in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania, according to Pocket Gamer. However, the game will continue to operate in Asia, including regions like Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and other selected areas in Asia and MENA (Middle East and North Africa) territories. This announcement has left many players in the West disappointed, especially considering the game's relatively recent launch.

Effective immediately, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened has been removed from both Apple and Google mobile stores in the affected regions. Furthermore, the in-game cash shop has been disabled, preventing players from making new purchases. Despite this, existing players can continue to play and use any remaining funds in their accounts until the servers officially close at the end of October.
NetEase and WB Games have provided little explanation for the abrupt closure of Harry Potter: Magic Awakened in the West. The official statement merely stated that "the time has come," which leaves fans questioning the reasoning behind the decision. It's especially puzzling given that the game launched only a year ago, and it appeared to be well-received by players.
The news of the shutdown has sparked frustration and confusion among players, particularly those who have invested significant time and money into the game.
The sudden nature of the announcement is surprising, especially considering that just last week, new ability cards and powers were introduced. Additionally, NetEase was in the midst of a design contest, making the decision to close the game even more bewildering.
Players on social media cannot describe how it feels to part ways with the game they love, with many feeling that they were treated unfairly. The decision to keep the game running in Asia while shutting it down in other regions has also raised concerns about the game's future, particularly regarding the potential for a PC port that was available in China but may never launch in the West, as per Massively Overpowered.
Harry Potter: Magic Awakened had a brief but impactful run in the West. The game's unique blend of card-based gameplay, strategic combat, and rich storytelling attracted a dedicated player base. However, the game's journey has now come to an unexpected end, leaving fans with unanswered questions and a sense of loss.
The sudden closure of Harry Potter: Magic Awakened in the West is a stark reminder of the unpredictability of the mobile gaming industry. It's even more frustrating for those who dedicated several hours and real money in-game.
While the game will continue to thrive in select Asian regions, its departure from the Americas, Europe, and Oceania marks a miserable end for many fans.
In the meantime, check the upcoming Chiikawa Pocket on mobile. Pre-registration for this game is currently underway on Android and iOS devices.
