Apple is set to introduce a major upgrade to Siri as part of its Apple Intelligence system. The enhancements, expected to roll out with the iOS 18.4 update in spring 2025, promise to transform the digital assistant's capabilities, aligning it more closely with advanced AI competitors like ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

Major Siri Upgrade Scheduled for Spring 2025

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that Apple intends to release the iOS 18.4 update along with a thorough revamp of Siri. Although iPhone users will be able to use some AI functions by the end of 2024, the biggest improvements won't likely occur until the following year. This incremental rollout strategy is typical of Apple, which frequently distributes new functionalities in point updates across its operating systems.

Among the anticipated enhancements is Siri's ability to precisely control actions within Apple's apps. Users may instruct Siri, for instance, to alter a picture and send it straight to a pal.

Siri's new ability to identify content on screens, which allows it to predict user actions based on context, is another important addition. This improvement aims to make interactions with Siri more intuitive and efficient.

Enhanced Capabilities and New Features

The upgraded Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence, will also include features like retrieving specific information from large photo libraries. Users might be able to ask Siri to find their driver's license number from a vast collection of photos and use it to fill in online forms. Such functionalities are part of Apple's effort to enhance Siri's practical utility in everyday tasks.

While the comprehensive Siri upgrade is scheduled for 2025, some features will debut earlier. By this fall, Siri is expected to gain integration with ChatGPT, providing it with more robust conversational abilities. Additionally, a redesigned Siri interface will replace the familiar circle graphic with a pulsing rainbow around the screen bezel, signaling a modernized and dynamic user experience.

Siri will also be able to offer basic tech support, leveraging deeper product knowledge.

Device Compatibility and Future Plans

Apple Intelligence will be accessible on the latest iPhone 15 Pro models and newer, as well as on iPads and MacBooks equipped with the M1 chipset or later. The Vision Pro, Apple's augmented reality device, is also set to receive Apple Intelligence, but not until next year. However, users of other Apple devices like the HomePod will have to wait for the launch of Apple's AI-powered tabletop robot, which has been rumored for some time.

This robot, designed to simulate head movements and zoom in on individuals within a group, aims to enhance video call interactions. It represents Apple's broader ambition to integrate AI more deeply into its hardware ecosystem. Reports suggest that these robots will operate autonomously, utilizing advanced navigation algorithms.

Further down the road, Apple's AI plan includes the development of AirPods with embedded cameras, featuring infrared sensors for hand gesture and motion detection. These next-generation AirPods, expected to be released in the future, will work in conjunction with the Vision Pro, offering a seamless blend of AI and augmented reality.

As the iOS 18.4 release approaches, beta versions will begin to incorporate these new features, providing a clearer picture of what users can expect. Apple's incremental rollout ensures a steady enhancement of Siri's capabilities, aligning with its strategy of continuous improvement. A major turning point in Apple's AI development has been reached with the integration of Apple Intelligence, which promises a more capable and adaptable Siri that can satisfy the needs of contemporary consumers.

In order to stay competitive in the ever changing digital assistant market, Apple plans to integrate AI innovations and enhance Siri's capabilities.
