Apple seems to be getting ready to integrate the periscope lens into iPhone 16 Pro models, considering that 5x optical zoom will be available for the standard Pro model for the first time. It is actually a major improvement for the Pro iPhone which has not had a periscope lens up to this release, adding it to the range as a feature of the improved capabilities of a compact smartphone, similar to that of the Pro Max.

Expanded Orders Signal Major Upgrade

It has emerged that Apple has upped its order for periscope lenses and such a move is unarguably indicative of the company's intention to supercharge the business regarding camera innovation. These lenses have been developed through incorporation of supplies from two other Taiwan bases, Largan Precision and Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO).

The company known as Largan was providing periscope lenses for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and this year mobile manufacturing company GSEO is expected to supply the same series of lenses.

A piece of news obtained from DigiTimes demonstrates that Apple plans to enhance zooming quality on the iPhones. Specifically, it has been reported that, in its next generation of iPhone, Apple plans to significantly increase the application of periscope lenses, where Largan Precision and GSEO will be its main suppliers. This expansion means that the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with the tetraprism 5x zoom lens, which is typical of high-end flagships in any given company.

Consistent Pro Camera Experience

Earlier this year, it was going to be available only on iPhone 15 Pro Max model while iPhone 15 Pro was to be equipped with just 3x zoom lens. This disparity often left users choosing between a more compact phone and superior telephoto performance. The inclusion of the periscope lens in both Pro models of the iPhone 16 series aims to eliminate this compromise, offering a consistent Pro camera experience across the lineup.

Apple's iPhone 16 Pro is expected to take a unique approach to its telephoto lens with a special "quadruple-reflection prism" design. As A consequence of this design it brings an easier to handle thickness than competitors' models, but it is available to bring slightly less light, due to the additional light bounce between the lens. It could impact low light or distant photograph capture and one can only hope that Apple has fixed this issue for iPhone 16 line.

Anticipated Features and Design Changes

The existing rumor regarding the iPhone 16 pro is that it features a new 5x zoom lens, but there are rumors that the iPhone 16 pro max has an even better telephoto camera. The following rumors imply a ''super telephoto'' lens which may give even higher zoom which will separate the Pro Max model.

Apart from improvements to the cameras, it has been suggested that the iPhone 16 series could get a redesign. This presents a possibility of change in camera placement to being vertical as well as the inclusion of the "Action button" in the normal sized iPhones particularly the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus which has so far only been seen in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Also, there are some indicators that physical buttons may be replaced with the touch-sensitive ones that create feedback vibrations, intended to improve the user experience.

The new iPhone 16 models are also expected to come with the next-gen Apple A18 chip and there might be the A18 pro chip for the Pro Max version. On the software side, the iPhone 16 series will come with the iOS 18 new release AI based operating system with enhanced features and superior performance.

As it is expected that an iPhone 16 Pro model will integrate a powerful periscope lens, the supplied zoom improvement confects the application of a comprehensive and powerful camera interface between the Pro models. This coupled with possible design changes and the use of superior chips and software makes the iPhone 16 series a worthy contender in the war of high end smartphone systems.
