Smartphone market leader Samsung seems to be on song to add to its ever-growing portfolio of Galaxy devices. A recent leak indicates that the Korean company's Galaxy line-up of smartphones is set to receive a new sibling dubbed the "GT-i9260" or the "Galaxy Premier."
The grapevine has been abuzz with rumors surrounding the "GT-i9260". Previously, it was speculated that the device would be a revamped version of the Galaxy Nexus, due to its hardware similarities and model number closeness with the Nexus (GT-i9250). However, the recent leak from German Web site MobileGeeks indicate that the rumored device is not a Nexus.
On Oct. 11, MobileGeeks posted images and specification details of the Galaxy Premier, which were courtesy a source.
"We are now faced with new information and a picture, which suposedly describe the device and show that is traded by some as a Samsung Galaxy Nexus second. The picture shows a smartphone that is in the style of the Samsung Galaxy S3, but by its shape but significantly different from the current flagship smartphone from Samsung and otherwise meets any of the previously known devices. The specifications of our source, also corresponds largely to what is already known for some time again," reported MobileGeeks (translated).
The Galaxy Premier is expected to be a mid-range device. A 1.5GHz dual-core processor will likely power the smartphone. The Galaxy Premier sports a 4.65-inch capacitive Super AMOLED HD display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. The smartphone measures 2.68 x 5.27 x 0.34 inches and will likely house 1GB of RAM.
The device will allegedly be available in 8/16Gb internal storage models with the option to expand the memory up to 64GB, courtesy the microSD card slot. The Galaxy Premier, it is speculated, will feature an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing one.
Rumors also suggest that the smartphone will come pre-loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and offer Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA, and NFC support. No details on the battery size are available.
MobileGeeks also reported that the Galaxy Premier will hit the shelves in Q4 2012 and may be priced around 480 euros. No information is available on the color options or the countries where the smartphone will be available.
Whether the rumors of the Galaxy Premier are authentic and bear fruition remains to be seen. However, considering that the German Web site was accurate about the S3 Mini leak, prior to launch, a possibility exists that the rumor could be credible.
