AMD garnered a considerable amount of appreciation with its first set of processing units made using the company's high-end Zen architecture. Shipping of the lauded Ryzen 7 desktop CPUs, which took the computing realm by storm, has already started. Now, the Sunnyvale-based chip maker is reportedly gearing to launch the succeeding variant Zen technology-based Ryzen processors dubbed, Ryzen 5 on April 11, 2017.
Meanwhile, potential insights about the entry level quotient of this lineup have found its way on the internet. The new member of the Zen clan i.e. Ryzen 3 is rumored to hit the store shelves later this year, and while that's still not officially confirmed, AS Rock's benchmarking has managed to obtain vital information regarding its main specs.
AMD Ryzen 3 Specifications
The Ryzen 3 1200 has been provided with base clock ranging to 3.1 Ghz. The cache has been made with a frequency of 2MB with restraints to L2 cache, according to German website ComputerBase (translation by ScienceTimes). In terms of core specifications, the Ryzen 3 1200 boasts 4 cores setup. As far as TDP is concerned, the chipset has a power capacity up to 64 Watt. AMD B350 will be the supported chipset.
AMD has already confirmed that all its CPUs that are based on the Zen architecture will be unlocked; in other words, all Ryzen flagships would be overclockable. This confirms that all multitasking and high-level operations would be accessible with all Ryzen processors -- whether it's Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 3, without breaking much of a sweat, DigitalTrends reported.
While it's no secret that AMD's Ryzen CPUs will be unlocked and therefore overclockable, this gives potential Ryzen 3 buyers an idea about what they will be associating with at Zen's lowest end. Moreover, Ryzen 5 is expected to carry a starting price tag of $169, which indicates exactly where the line will max out in terms of cost, Yahoo Tech reported.
It also remains to be seen whether or not the Ryzen 3 will support the same SMT (symmetrical multithreading) technology as Ryzen 5 and 7. Another question that remains regarding the Ryzen 3 is whether it will comprise twice as many threads as cores. Plus, there's no word regarding the number of cores each Ryzen 3 iteration will support.
More concrete details are unlikely to surface in near future as Ryzen 3 is not scheduled to make an appearance anytime soon.
