It seems that Microsoft is joining the trend of the Snapchat generation. Reportedly the tech giant has released another camera app for iPhone users. According to reports, Sprinkles made its debut on April Fools day and is available at the iOS App Store.
Microsoft released its own selfie mod for the iPhone last year to join the ranks of popular selfie apps. Sprinkles is the third one in the fray and is the company's latest endeavor to counter Snapchat.
The camera app enables users to add stickers, emojis, and captions to user photographs. According to a review from The Verge, it has features that are currently not available to Snapchat.
TechCrunch discovered that Sprinkles can generate captions based on user preference. Also, it can match a user's age or celebrity lookalikes as suggested filters for a photograph. Microsoft reportedly integrated its machine learning capabilities into the camera app.
Sprinkles & It's Age Guessing Trick
Allegedly, Microsoft new camera app can guess an iOS user's age. It's not that much of a technology yet, but it's a fresh take from redundant templates that most camera apps have.
The age guessing feature and the new interface might be enough to interest younger iOS users. In its extensive review, The Verge believes that the app is primarily aimed at young people.
Sprinkles takes a lot of the silly but fun technology Microsoft has on its other side projects. The only take from the new app is that it exactly feels like another side project from the tech giant.
Moreover, the camera app rolled out on April 1. It's possible that Microsoft is pulling some sort of April Fools Joke on everybody.
Users that would want to have their personal look with the app can download it for free in the App Store. Microsoft's previous camera apps are Selfie and Pix.
