Dell has introduced five new S Series monitors, some of which sport edge-to-edge glass and In-Plane Switching (IPS) panels, offering more affordable alternatives to the company's UltraSharp line. Available in 27-, 24-, 23-, and 21.5-inch sizes, these monitors will cost between $200 and $400.

"The S Series is perfect for consumers seeking a compelling entertainment experience that couples superb aesthetics with powerful performance," touts Dell. "Advanced panel technologies support ultra-wide viewing angles, while our new Image Enhance feature improves visual quality."

All five monitors in Dell's 2013 S Series have a 16:9 aspect ratio instead of 16:10, a standard 1920 x 1080 resolution, LED-backlighting, and 178-degree viewing angles in both directions.

The 27-inch S2740L model is on the top end, bearing the most connectivity options: HDMI, DVI, VGA, and a pair of USB ports. The IPS panel on this monitor delivers a brightness of 250 cd/m², 1000:1 contrast ratio, 7ms gray-to-gray response time, edge-to-edge glass, and a thin bezel. As expected, the S2740 is also the most expensive of the bunch, with a $400 price tag.

The 24-inch S2440L comes as the only non-IPS model of the line. Instead, this model packs a Vertical Alignment (VA) panel with a 5000:1 contrast ratio and a response time of 5ms. Connections include VGA and HDMI, but no USB. The S2440L features the same thin bezel, edge-to-edge design as its higher-end sibling, and it comes with a $300 price tag.

Meanwhile, the three lower-end models feature small bezels and IPS panels, but ditch the edge-to-edge glass. The 23-inch model, S2340L, comes with a $250 price tag and offers VGA and HDMI connections.

The other two models are both 21.5-inch monitors. One of them offers VGA and HDMI connections, and costs $220, while the other packs VGA and DVI connections, for a $200 price tag.

All five monitors of the S Series pack Dell's Display Manager software for configuring presets for specific applications.

"Seamless and intuitive to use, the new monitors will help users tackle creative projects with efficiency," added the company. "Dell Display Manager also aids productivity with fast access to software such as Auto Mode, which lets you select your preferred preset models for specific applications."
